Buying a new Chevy vehicle is an awesome feeling, being able to pick out the color and trim and get the latest model-year features. Who wouldn’t want to buy a brand-new vehicle, right? Well, what if there were benefits to buying used that made such models far more worthwhile than buying new ones? What if those benefits outweighed what some might perceive to be potential drawbacks? Then you might be inclined to shop for a car, truck, or SUV at a used Chevy dealer near Arcadia.

But what reasons could there be for buying a used vehicle over a new one? Why not just grab a loan and buy a new car, truck, EV, or SUV and be done with it? Well, there are a number of reasons why Arcadia drivers might prefer a used Chevy over a new one. This isn’t to say that buying used is always best, but a few of these reasons might compel you to consider a used vehicle based on your driving habits, your preferred features, and your budget.

1) Used Models Are Cheaper to Insure

Insurance is a big part of the car-owning process; you can’t go moseying around on the road without it. Now, the good part about driving around Arcadia—especially if all you need is something for basic transportation—is that the roads are simple, the intersections aren’t very busy, and the driving is typically relaxed and laid-back. This is a huge advantage for those who just need a good daily driver without all the bells and whistles that come with some models. If all you were looking for was a reliable vehicle to get you from Point A to Point B, then you probably wouldn’t want an expensive model that also needed comprehensive insurance.

Buying a used Chevy, whether it’s a sedan like the Malibu or a truck like the Silverado 1500, may enable you to take advantage of lower costs for insurance when buying a used model. Why? Because insurance companies may offer lower insurance rates on used vehicles compared to new vehicles depending on the make and model. The reason for this is that used models are typically cheaper to repair and, therefore, have lower rates. It’s not always a surefire thing with every model, as you might find a used Chevy Suburban High Country could prove to be more expensive when it comes to insurance compared to a used Chevy Equinox LS. However, if you already have a policy, you can sometimes take advantage of adding a used model for less, as opposed to a new model.

2) You Can Find Discontinued Models

Shopping for a brand-new car is always a highlight as you find a model that suits your needs, but one of the things that can be a real drawback to shopping for a new Chevy is that you only have access to the latest model-year options as opposed to some cars that are no longer available. So, what’s the benefit of shopping for discontinued models?

The benefit is that models that have been discontinued can be purchased for much lower prices than many newer models. You also have the opportunity to drive something that others typically don’t own. So, if you like the idea of having a vehicle in your possession that others don’t, then buying a discontinued model used is a sound option. For example, a used model like the Impala or Sonic is a discontinued nameplate that would make for affordable and practical solutions for Arcadia drivers.

3) You’re More Likely to Find a Rarer Trim

Buying a brand-new model-year Chevy can be exciting for sure, but it also comes with the drawback that if the new model year comes with a limited edition such as the Midnight Edition or Redline Edition or a special trim like the ZR2 Bison, the supply means that initial sales of the new model will make that particular vehicle very difficult to find. Sometimes, popular trims will be sold out the year they are released, and getting your hands on one can be almost impossible.

However, with used vehicles, it’s possible to shop for rare or limited edition trims because they’ve managed to circulate on the market. This means that you have a much better opportunity to get your hands on rare limited editions or special trims of popular Chevy nameplates. The best part about it is that not only can you find these rarer trims on the used market, but they are much cheaper than the initial MSRP from when they launched. So it’s a win-win situation for anyone looking for a specific Chevy that may be rare, but you don’t have to pay the high MSRP for it.

4) You Can Filter Used Models By Preference

Having the availability of various types of models is one thing, and being able to shop for special editions is also nice, but, above all else, shopping for used Chevy models is so much more exciting than shopping for a new model because of the filters. You have so many different search filters to employ when shopping for a used Chevy and multiple model years and generations to sift through; it gives you a lot more options to find something specific to your tastes. Maybe you want to shop within a specific price range, or maybe you want to find only Chevy models that come in a specific color, or maybe you’re only interested in specific models that have certain features.

All of that is possible when you shop used, and best yet is that you can combine filters, so you can shop for a vehicle within a specific price range and with a specific powertrain. Alternatively, you can shop by trim and by model year, which is great if you want a specific Chevy from a specific generation in a specific trim. These kinds of options open up a wealth of opportunities for Arcadia drivers to find something specific. This is great if you’re looking for a good work truck that maybe has some luxury or certain convenience features, or maybe an SUV like the Tahoe or Trax available in a certain color or trim but in a specific price range, which isn’t always something you can negotiate when buying a new vehicle.

5) Used Models Are Always More Affordable

The most common reason anyone might want to shop for a vehicle from a used Chevy dealer near Arcadia is simply because of the fact that, most times, used vehicles are cheaper than newer vehicles. If you need an affordable commuter vehicle to travel to Ruston or Shreveport, then buying something like the Equinox, Trax, or Trailblazer used gives you a lot of financial leeway to save big on those vehicles. You get great fuel efficiency, nice features, and something affordable.

Likewise, if you need a truck for work, buying a Chevy Colorado or Silverado 1500 pre-owned is a great way to save a lot of money while doing so. You can save thousands of dollars buying used and still get a lot of the features you want without having to commit to a pricier new model. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t benefits to buying a new Chevy, but there are plenty of benefits to buying used, and saving a lot of money is probably the most important benefit of them all.
