The Chevy Silverado 1500 continues to push the boundaries in terms of what it offers to consumers in the full-size, light-duty pickup truck segment. For 2023, Chevy decided to ramp up the feature set in an interesting way that not only appeals to dedicated enthusiasts but also every other average trucker out there looking for a quality pickup that can handle towing and trailering with ease. If you’re thinking about getting a new 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 but you want to know exactly what it features, good news, we can help. As the Chevrolet dealer near you, we know everything there is to know about this truck and are here to highlight what you get and what sort of features you can expect from the exciting trim line-up, along with the new updates for 2023.
What’s New for 2023?
There are two big new changes made to the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500. The first major addition for the new model year is the update to the Duramax turbo-diesel. The 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine has had its performance ratings buffed for the new model year. You now have a 7.6% increase in torque, as well as an upgrade of overall horsepower by 10%. This boosts the overall Duramax stats up to 305 hp, an improvement from the previous 2022 model year’s 277 hp. The Duramax also now sports 495 lb-ft of torque, up from 2022’s 460 lb-ft of torque.
The upgrade in performance is thanks to a number of key components being improved for the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500, including returned turbo compressor, all-new fuel injectors, improved temperature controls, as well as new steel pistons, and a new combustion bowl. This enables you to tow or trailer up to 13,300 lbs worth of cargo with the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500’s 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel. The improved engine is available across the Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country trims.
In addition to the new Duramax improvements is an update to the recently added ZR2 trim. The ZR2 was added to the Chevy Silverado’s trim line-up for the very first time with the 2022 model year, but for 2023 Chevy decided to upgrade the experience by teaming up with the American Expedition Vehicles outfit. This has resulted in the ZR2 Bison, a special AEV-themed ZR2 iteration of the Chevy Silverado 1500. The special edition features front and rear AEV-stamped steel bumpers, as well as five hot-stamped boron steel skid plates protecting essential parts of the undercarriage.
Additionally, you have access to steel rocker protection, integrated vertical tow hooks on the steel bumper, and exclusive 18-inch AEV-themed wheels paired with 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Mud/Terrain tires. The ZR2 Bison is equipped with Multimatic’s DSSV spool-valve dampers, a 6.2-liter V8 engine, and front and rear electronically locking differentials. It’s the ultimate off-road edition of the Silverado 1500 for enthusiasts.
